I have a few ideas which can be helpful towards faction diplomacy and status.
If you'd like I can upload these files to the forums? maybe it can help? Got alot of stuff from coding and admining another MUD before it closed down too.
Lemme know on MSN

| I like the idea of cloning and respawning. They're both pretty good. I don't see why we can't just have both. Because players become stagnant? Wow that's dumb. Look, just because it doesn't perfectly line up in the timeline doesn't mean we can't use it. Give the people what they want? Just have a vote or something. |

Kamino has been destroyed, the Spaarti cloning cylinders on Wayland are a closely guarded Imperial secret. What cloning places remain? _________________

Yaiv is right. Cloning also carries a taboo because of the Emperor.
I think the respawning idea for battle works best, to account for that fact that many people don't want to lose their characters, and account for the fact that there aren't thousands of players playing at the same time that can easily take up where another killed player left off, and a single battle where one faction wipes out the entire other faction (Sluis Van, Togoria, Coruscant come to mind) and pretty much instantly steamrolls the rest of the way despite the fact that there'd be plenty of force left to stop them minus two or three capships.
Dangerous areas remain permanent death, War areas have respawning, and other areas are set as RP/friendly and you can't fight unless both sides agree, or have special skills that let you sneak attack someone with good RP reason as mention in another thread. |

Holu brings up an interesting idea. I'd like to expand.
What if, as opposed to simply respawning within two weeks, you die. Plain and simple. But unlike your typical death, you can actually "respawn". Only as an entirely different person. Same race. Same attributes. Completely different character.
Change your name. New bio. New everything. Same stats. No equipment. No clan. No affiliation. Nothing.
This follows the concept of a NPC turning into a supporting character or hero. Someone that existed all along in the background and is only now coming to the forefront. |
This works wonderfully on another game I used to play. I don't know that it's ideal for us, but it DOES work wonderfully to accomplish the goal. _________________ God grant me the strength to change the things I can, the courage to accept the things I can't, and the ability to move things with my mind.

Another summary of what has been decided based upon what has been discussed.
The majority of character death in the game will not be permanent. Being 'killed' on a core, non-deadly, world will not result in the loss of your character.
If, however, you decide to take on a Rancor in the depths of Tatooine, or dog-fight Pirates in Unknown space, then expect to meet a hard, cold death that you will not be able to recover from.
We don't want players to sit in their ships, worried about losing the characters they have worked hard to earn. That being said we don't want players to risk everything knowing that they will never die. To facilitate this your character's progression in the game will relate directly to the progression of the next character you create (facilitated through the accounts code). What this means is that for every level you gain and every skill you master you will be able to grant these to your newly created character.
Players who decide to recreate a character for the sole purpose of hunting down and killing their murderer have no place in SWSE. The door is over there *points* I'll call you a Taxi.
